Family

Family
Family therapy offers the opportunity for family members to work with a trained therapist to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and foster healthier relationships within the family group.
It focuses on the interactions between family members, rather than just one individual, to address issues like conflict, ineffective communication, and difficulty with boundaries. It also helps families cope with major life changes, such as divorce, grief, or job loss, as well as difficulties arising from a family member's behaviour, addiction, or illness.
The aim is to help family members develop positive changes and understanding within the interconnected network of the family system.
Family therapy is a form of systemic therapy where the focus is on the dynamics between members of a family group when they have become dysfunctional.
The therapists at The 18b Practice all abide by the BACP, UKCP and BPS ethical frameworks.

Couples

Couples
In couples therapy, the therapist provides a supportive environment to help couples address, communicate and understand issues in conflicts, dynamics and behavioural patterns within their relationships.
In this process, couples learn to approach conflicts or disagreements, whilst exploring their feelings and underlying concerns, in order to reach mutually agreed ground where they can move towards more effective communication with each other.
The therapists at The 18b Practice all abide by the BACP, UKCP and BPS ethical frameworks.

Child/Adolescent

Child/Adolescent
When children and young people are overwhelmed by sad, painful, angry, frightened feelings and thoughts in life events, they can become confused and find it hard to articulate in words. Child and adolescent psychotherapists are trained to observe and help through meaningful activities such as play, story-telling and drawing to make sense of difficult experiences.
This also assists the therapists to understand the child’s mind and functioning within the family and world around them.
The aim is to create a reliable and consistent therapeutic relationship between the therapist and child that brings about emotional regulation, improved mental and psychological growth.
The therapists at The 18b Practice all abide by the BACP, UKCP and BPS ethical frameworks.
