Alexandra Mync
Professional Profile
In recent years, my clinical work has been primarily psychodynamic. However, my original psychotherapy training has enabled me to work also in an integrative way. This means that I’m able to draw on ideas from several schools of thought/psychotherapeutic approaches in response to the different needs of each person I work with.
Over nearly twenty years, I have worked delivering individual and group therapy in the NHS, the charitable sector, as well as in private practice. My passion for the voluntary sector translated into working formerly with organisations specialising in areas of bereavement & loss; trauma; adoption & fostering; mental health crisis, and all forms of abuse & domestic violence, as well as with organisations which provide therapeutic support to families of individuals suffering from severe and enduring mental health conditions, and of those with disability.
Alongside working in private practice, I have gained considerable experience of teaching, training and offering clinical supervision, having provided training and supervision both in the NHS and several charitable organisations such as Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders. Currently, I teach on psychodynamic psychotherapy training at Highgate Counselling Centre.
What might you come to me for?
I work with people grappling with a wide variety of issues and life events. Sometimes, it may be helpful to navigate these accompanied by a therapist.
People who seek therapy might be facing a broad range of challenges and feelings that are difficult to manage. You may be:
- feeling low, stuck or carrying with you nagging anxiety
- feeling low in confidence, lacking self-worth or purpose
- adjusting to change e.g. embarking on something new in your life, or things that are familiar to you are coming to an end
- dealing with loss or bereavement
You might find that your relationships are consistently a problem for you, whether with family, friends, at work or romantic ones, and you wish to better understand and change any repeating relational patterns you've identified.
Sometimes it might be difficult to name what you feel or to put a finger on the issue you want to address. It might be about a problem that is getting in the way of you living the life you want to live, or about finding a turning point in your life.
I have successfully completed:
- Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy training (DIT is a time-limited psychodynamic therapy), Anna Freud Centre, London
- MSc Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling, University of Roehampton, London
- Postgraduate Diploma Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling, University of Roehampton, London
- A degree in Psychology and Sociology (BA Hons), University of Westminster, London
I'm currently undertaking further training with Anna Freud Centre to become Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) supervisor
