Professional Profile

Therapy is a way of exploring the possibilities of how we can heal from wounds of the past. Talking therapies can also help with understanding and clarifying the experiences of relationships with self and other. Issues arising from these relationships sometimes bring about feelings of unsatisfactoriness, resentment and helplessness. These feelings can also lead to despair if the potential to change is obscured. We cannot change the past but we can alter our experience of the past. Through paying close attention to current experiences, we can understand past conditioning, sense into the embodied intentionality of the present and orientate towards the future with awareness.

Since 2001, I have worked with clients with a complexity of conditions including anxiety, depression, addiction, relationship difficulties, PTSD, mental distress associated with co-morbidities and personality disorders. While I worked on the NHS for several years, I also maintained a thriving private practice.

As a UKCP registered Psychotherapist and Supervisor, I bring together an integrated approach that focuses on developing awareness of the interconnected processes of the mind-body continuum. I also work with mindfulness-based practices which help to bring awareness to the interdependent sytems of our thought and behavioural patterns. The outcome is the possibility of changing perceptions of self and other by returning to our inherent embodied reflexivity.

I trained with the Karuna Institute in Devon where psychotherapy is informed by an embodied form of Buddhist undertsanding. I was also a tutor in the MA programme at the Karuna Institute from 2008 to 2012.

I conducted my doctoral research at the University of Exeter. It was a study on the embodied experience of therapeutic change within dyadic psychotherapy. I continue to explore deeper into the experience of embodied differences in realationality within the therapeutic arena.
